What are free track matte transitions?

Matte transitions go beyond traditional stingers. In fact, they’re a brand new transition type added to OBS and Streamlabs in 2021!

Traditional stingers use a cut point to switch between scenes. That is, at some point the stinger transition fills the entire screen. When it does, the scene behind it swaps — meaning the viewer sees only one scene at a time.

Track matte transitions avoid this using an animated mask video. Streamers don’t have to set a cut point, and viewers will see both scenes simultaneously. The next scene is revealed gradually, allowing for more complex animations. Oftentimes this can lead to a better viewing experience.
