Custom transitions, on demand

In the past, making a one-of-a-kind transition was hard work. First, you had to hire an expensive motion designer. Then you’d wait weeks or months for the final product.

Those days are gone.

With the Stinger Transition Maker, you can create animations instantly — no design skills needed. Browse a catalog of prebuilt templates, then personalize your transition’s appearance. Download in five minutes or less, syncs easily with your streaming or video editing software.

How to make a stinger transition

  • 1

Create a Visuals by Impulse account, if you haven’t already. While you can preview without one, you’ll need a VBI account to submit a transition for processing.

  • 2

    Select a template

Ready to get started? Browse our library of transition types, including classic stingers and free designs. Hover over a template to preview its animation.

  • 3

    Load up on Credits

Most transitions require Credits to submit for processing. A single credit can cost between $2-5, depending on which bundle you purchase. Learn more about Credits here.

  • 4

    Customize your design

Start personalizing your transition. To add your brand colors, either paste in a hex code or choose manually with the color picker. For logo uploads, we recommend using transparent PNG files — avoid JPGs as they lack transparency.

  • 5

    Choose a file format

Next, specify your transition’s file format. There are two choices: WebM and MOV. WebM is more common for streamers, as these files work great in OBS and Streamlabs. MOV is better for video editing software like Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

  • 6

    Save changes

Preview your changes. Once you’re satisfied, click Save Changes. Choose Add to Cart if you want to continue building more transitions. Or click Buy Now to submit your design for processing.

  • 7

    Wait in queue

Now you’ll see your transitions progress. Pending means your transition is waiting in line to begin rendering. Processing means it has begun rendering. Complete means your design is ready for download. Most transitions will be ready in between 2-5 minutes.

  • 8

    Test out your file

When your transition is ready, click the Download icon and save it locally. Now drag it into your streaming or video editing software to see it in action! Note: all your rendered transitions will be saved in your Library for easy future edits.

How to set up OBS transitions

Once the stinger transition maker is complete, installing your new files is easy. First, find the OBS Scene Transitions window. Hit the “+” button, select “Stinger” from the dropdown menu, and give it a name. In the next window, click “Browse” next to the Video File field and navigate to your new transition file.

Next, you’ll need to adjust the Transition Point timing, so that your background scenes don’t transition too early or late. Start with one second (or frames, if you prefer) and keep tinkering until you find the perfect timing.

You did it! Your OBS stinger transitions are now ready for action. If you’re a Streamlabs Desktop user, the process for Streamlabs transitions is nearly identical. Fire up those animations and show them off to the world.

How do Credits work?

Most transitions require Credits to process. A Credit costs between $2-5, depending on the package you purchase:

  • 1 Credit costs $5, a one-time purchase
  • 10 Credits cost $35, or $3.50 each (a 30% discount)
  • 25 Credits cost $50, or $2.00 each (a 60% discount)

The more transitions you make, the more you’ll save by purchasing bundles. Credits can also be redeemed on Super, a tool for making custom creator overlays like social callouts.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to process a transition once I have purchased it?

Processing time varies based on a number of factors. These include queue length (how many users are ahead of you), transition type (premium designs generally process faster than free ones) and design complexity (the more advanced the template, the more rendering power will be needed). Most transitions take between 2-5 minutes to finish.

What video format will my transition be? Can I choose a particular file format?

Transitions can be processed and downloaded in either MOV or WEBM format. Generally, we’d recommend WEBMs for streaming software and MOVs for video editors.

You can select your preferred file format before submitting a transition for processing. Choose correctly, otherwise you’ll have to resubmit your super in the right format—which will cost an additional Credit.

What streaming software do transitions work in?

Transitions work on all major OBS software, including OBS Studio, Streamlabs, StreamElements, XSplit and more.

What video editing software will my transitions work in?

Transitions work in most—if not all—NLE editing applications, including Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. We suggest using MOV format for your video projects, whether you’re a creator or filmmaker.

Will my transitions work on Mac?

Yes. If you are a Mac-user, we suggest processing your transition in MOV format.

Can I make a transition from my mobile device?

Yes, you can submit a transition for processing from your mobile device. However, we recommend downloading your file to desktop before adding it to your streaming or video editing software.

How long are my transitions saved? Are they ever removed?

Forever! Your transitions—including saved templates and processed files—will never be removed, unless your VBI account is deactivated.

Can I preview transitions before processing or buying them?

Yes, feel free to customize and preview transition animations as much as you’d like. However, note that you’ll need to be logged in to save changes to a template.

How long do my credits last?

Forever! Credits don’t have an expiration date and are tied to your VBI account. You never have to worry about them disappearing, unless your VBI account is deactivated.

Can I get a refund if I don’t like my transition?

Once a Credit is spent on a transition, it is final. We do not offer refunds on processed transitions. However, you can experiment, tweak and preview animations as much as you’d like. That way you can be 100% confident with your design before submitting it for processing. If you have questions before submitting a transition, our support team is happy to assist.

Do I need to worry about DMCA takedowns due to transition sound effects?

No, all our sound effects are mixed in-house and free to use. You’ll never have to worry about your audio content getting flagged.

Do I need a license in order to use transitions in my content?

No, transitions don’t require a license—as long as you are logged into the tool from a legitimate Visuals by Impulse account. Transitions may not be redistributed in any way, whether sold or given away for free. Feel free to use transitions on all your content, whether it be live or produced.
